Thank you so much for the scholarship so I could attend basketball camp at the University of Alabama. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. I hope to one day play basketball in college and I think this camp helped me get closer to my goal.

Thank you for the money for a new helmet. I have been in desperate need of a new helmet as my old one was chipped and sweaty. I am excited I get to personalize it in my own style. Thank you!

We are so grateful for your help in purchasing a new helmet for Hope. She has found a love of playing goalie for the Sled Wings and as parents protection is a huge concern.  Knowing that she now has a helmet that fits perfectly and is in great condition gives us some peace of mind.  We can't wait to see her personality shine are she continues her love of sled hockey.

This scholarship has helped tremendously. I was able to purchase a new laptop for the school year as well as pay off my first semester's tuition. I am currently in school for my Masters in Social Work and receiving this scholarship allowed me to further my education.

Thanks again!!

Peter

We appreciate the scholarships awarded to Peter last year from the West Michigan Spina Bifida Organization. They paid for registration for Peter to play wheelchair basketball and sled hockey. Playing travel sports out of town can get expensive so every little bit is super helpful.

Driving gives you a whole new level of independence, one less aspect that other people are in control of. Driver's ed is a class so it was boring but quite important. There are a lot of rules and a lot of ways things can go badly if you don't follow those rules. So it's important to pay attention.

I did the driving part with a different driver than my classmates since I needed to learn how to use hand controls. Once I got used to the car, which took awhile, I got comfortable and it was fun because I would talk with my driving instructor. Now that I've had a long time to practice, I feel pretty comfortable with hand controls. Of course there are things I need to work on but that will come with time.

I'm now getting used to driving our family van, it fits all of my sports equipment like my tennis chair and hockey gear. Thank you to the West Michigan Spina Bifida Organization. I'm very excited to be able to become a licensed driver.

Conner

Hello everyone. My name is Connor Fee. I am 31 years old, and I was born with Spina Bifida. Throughout my life, there were certain times as I was growing up that I was told I couldn’t do certain activities in life because of my disability. Through gym class, and even just playing on the playground, I was told that things would be too difficult. When I was ten years old, a huge wall came down when I was told that, with a few modifications, I could play the one sport that I love, hockey. I have been playing for the last 21 years now, and I have made so many lasting memories (including marriage), because of hockey.

This scholarship means a lot to me. Playing this sport is sometimes very expensive, including acquiring custom gear. This scholarship means that I get to continue my passion for hockey, and potentially help those younger than me to achieve their dreams and their passions.

Thank you again to the WMSBO for this scholarship!
